Our District’s Local Governors

Abstract

In this study, a series of activity was organized according to the 1st acquisition “Student recognizes the units of the local government where he/she lives in.” in the “People and Management” unit, under the “Power, Governance and Society” learning strand in the 4th grade Social Studies Curriculum. The activities were conducted in 2013-2014 academic year in Ataturk Primary School located in Kabataş District of Ordu Province during the spring semester with 4/B class students within a period of 40+40+40 minutes. The purposes of the activity are to inform students about local government, to introduce the local governments where they live and to show students their place of residence, how the local governments are selected, by whom, how the local governments are managed. Towards this aim a series of activities were performed such as the polls, the poll area, the specialist invitation and mayor visit. At the end of the activities, students were observed to learn local governments in a concrete manner.
